A hand made Holiday

It is already March, and we are still seeing this in our living room.

So instead of going in to major detail of all the handmade craftyness that went around here this holiday, I'll just go ahead and share through pictures.

The tree of trees! And we have no idea how to take it down still ....

Our million dollar wreath! I don't recommend making this unless you have hit the lotto.

Our cabin tree room tree with handmade ornaments.

STOCKINGS!!!!!

And OH the Holiday snacks! What a fun Holiday we had here. Thanks to all those that were able to come to the festivities.

I Hated to see it go, so I guess that may be why the tree still stands!

Palm Springs, you scalawag!

Be oh so prepared for a lot of pictures!

We recently had the opportunity to once more return to our favorite place of the desert, Palm Springs! It was "that" birthday weekend where girls turn in to a lady of a particular age, and there was no better place to spend it then the desert and with the carpenter of my dreams.

We spent the bulk of our time there just being gawkers and coveting all the these lucky people had. The homes, the desert, and amazing shopping all around them!

We are trying to start thinking about what we are going to be doing with our landscaping come spring time, and whatever extras we can afford along the way.
We love an A frame house anytime!!!
Orange and Green are my favorite!!
Good window shade and desert plants we <3!!!!!
We also went to Joshua tree while we were there. I just love to see a good desert you know!
And it was!

Walking through the cactus gardens, Jared got pricked in the toe ....

While in P.S. we stayed at The Ace. Let me tell you, best Veggie Pot Pie of my lifetime! Honest!

And of corse we did some shopping, we saw some amazing things that we could only imagine having in our home, but I have posted more then enough photos already so I'll leave you with the news of news, this happened for those that have not yet heard.

7 years in the making and I guess this is what comes next.

Oh Palm Springs, you are a sneaky devil!!! You will always  have a special place in my heart.

Re upholstering made easy!

No more "sorry I am a slacker" excuses on the lack of posting friends. I am really just lazy. But it does not mean that I have been lazy around the house!

It's coming up on our 1 year in the mini! I can't believe how time really goes when you are getting old like we are. But it does, and i tell you, one thing I did right while we didn't have plumbing issues of our own or a mortgage was stock up on goodies when we saw them. We are lovers of thrifting as well as making our rounds to the antique shops around town and in to the next. I am a firm believer of when you see something and if you have the $$ DO IT! I know not the smartest sounding idea but it is a rule you have to use wisely. Ya at times it did apply to everything for me, but not always. But over the years we were able to come across some great stuff for a pretty good price and we jumped on it. For what we found that didn't fit in my room that I rented or Jared's garage, we rented a storage shed for super cheap and held on to some great stuff until we were able to get a place of our own.

A great find that we came across a few years ago was a table and chairs set for a dining room. It is a super great table that seats 6. Everything was in great shape also as well as a great price to follow.
After getting things together around the house, we were able to grab the set out of storage and bring it home. Almost forgetting what we had found a few years earlier, we realized that the fabric was pretty worn down and just ugly.

Covering a few chairs couldn't be that hard so we took the challenge. For those of you that live in Vegas and have ever though about doing this yourself, you should check out Home Fabrics on Oakey and Decatur. Such a good selection as well as the best prices you can find!
Having no real idea how much fabric it would really take to cover 6 chairs the back and seat, Jared though it best to buy 6 yards, one for each. Those of you that sew know that this is beyond the amount that you could ever use, but I just went along with the "just in case" in mind and satisfaction that we only spent $40 on this!

On to business....

Here is what we decided on. A green tweedish fabric with hints of yellow and white. Ya.

For the most part, chair seats and backs come off pretty easily. Just look for the mounting screws and bada BING!  As you can see from the original job, it wasn't the best so there wasn't much competition.

Jared started with the back of the chair, because it looked to be a bit easier. Using just a flat head we were able to pull out all of the old staples and keep the back in good shape as well as see how it was put together along the way.

Of course, Lula wanted in on some action.

And here it is! The fabric was just folded over, stapled and a thin back piece went on top to cover the staples also covered in fabric.

The bottom cushion was done the same way! A bit easier because you didn't have to try and hide the stables as much as with the back. I am sorry I didn't get a photo of that part.

They cleaned up well right!

See where $40 can get you and it seriously only took about 2 hours. Hey I'll be happy to offer Jared up to anyone who needs a helping hand!

Stick around we've a got some good things going on here!
