The face lift project.

I know that was a lot of photos to handle and this one is not going to be any different.

Just when we thought that we were starting on making so progress, we realized that to paint the exterior would be one thing, but to plaster it, would be an ah-mazing thing. Things don't come easy when you are trying to do everything at once to get a hold of the end result, but we managed to make things work out.

Plaster. From what we have observes as well as what Jared continues to tell me, is that mid century houses, ranch homes, and anything with in that era or what you may be trying to re-create to replicate that era, the exterior has a smooth finish. And boy does that look "SMOOTH" :)
Living in the desert, smooth does not come easy, or pocket worthy. WE had a few companies come out to the house and give an estimate. They ranged from $8,000 - $3,000, so am sure you know what end we kind of went towards. Yes we want to do it once and the best the first time, but we have to be practical not only for our pocket's sake but for the sake of things lasting and being smart.
We ended up finding a GREAT company here in town that has been plastering for over 30 years. They were honest with us when telling and describing the finishes as well as colors we were looking at as well as giving us an amazing price!

But before we started with the plaster, the trim, under carriage, and accent polls all had to be painted so that there was no plaster residue if we were to go back to them once the house was completed.
On to painting some more, we went.... Jared went, and I helped.

It's a lot of work to paint a house. And in the middle of a Vegas summer, I don't think it is the smartest thing to do, but when you want to see some results, you have to put in the work.

It's all starting to come together. I'll restrain from posting every progress shot I have and move on to the plastering.
As I said, we found a great co. that did it for us here in Las Vegas.
It was a 3 step process that took about two weeks for the size of our house.
The process started with the whole house being scored. All of the old plaster that was pretty much on the drive way was scraped off and cleaned up.
Next they sprayed a layer of plaster along the whole house. All of the windows we masked off as well as the areas where Jared had painted.

Then finally in the third step, a final coat of plaster was sprayed on the house with the color of our choice. This scared me a bit because they did not have the exact color that we had originally decided on, but one some what close ....

Now I know this looks really dark. I kinda liked it ... but it lightened up... But don't think we are finished YET!
Round 2 of touching up trim, awnings, and accents we in order!

And then the awnings....

I totally helped put these up! SWEAR!

Are we ready for a before and after ?
BEFORE:

AFTER:

Our face lift in a nut shell. I really tried to make it quick.
And we are working on the front door thing, and the front yard, as well as an address label, and maybe some planters?

Making the outside match the inside.

Being a lady of a cretin age, there comes a time where a "face lift" may be an option. And I am talking about the house, here, folks. Through the past several months while we have lived here, our main concern was the interior and making this place our home. Finally we have gotten to a point to where it really does feel like home and I personally just like to sit and marinate in what we have created together. (ts ts ts) But, and there always is one, driving home each day and pulling up in the driveway, the exterior really didn't have the same effect on us as the interior. I mean ... she's showing her age!

Well with a penny here and a lot-o-money there... WE. MADE. THING. HAPPEN....

WARNING:
This will probably turn in to a two part er post once again because I think I have a lot to cover.. maybe we will see but stick with us.

Down to business. The house, plaster, paint.
Of course we looked through pictures upon pictures to find the perfect "make up" for our leading lady at hand. This is never an easy task for the two of us. We agree, we don't, we do and then we don't again and I say "whatever you like, I'm sure I'll like as well." (But he knows me all to well) And weeks later, we agree on something. Real life.

SO here is a little bit of the process that we went through in starting our quest to the perfect color combo. (Personally, mine is black and gold fo life!)

OH there are more....

I really tried to warn you all ... and now for a few real life inspiration...

My favorite:

I hope the vision is coming together for all of you readers out there, well 9 of you.
And now for a little bit of real life action. We are not all talk here, we do.

I know what you are all saying... BUT OF COURSE IT WILL HAVE ORANGE, AND OF COURSE IT WILL HAVE SOME WHAT OF A GREEN BECAUSE THAT'S WHO WE ARE!

It would just be stupid for us to start right out on the house. Good thing we have this torture chamber in our back yard that we can make mischief  experiment on! And away we go....

Drum roll:
SEAL SKIN - Trim, awnings
AUSTIN MUSIC - Accents....
and the base .... wait, we have to re plaster the whole house :(

To be continued......

He's crafty AGAIN!

I have a love hate relationship with having Jared as a boyfriend. HAHA! This sounds bad. No, OK Jared is cool. Almost too cool :) He knows how to do everything and when it comes down to it, I am jealous. Ya I can dress a mannequin and make a mean cup cake but he even has a one up on me with the whole  grammar and spelling thing. He should be the one posting more here, not me because I am sure some of you are really starting to rethink my educational skillz!

Back to the cool factor this kid has. Recently, he was asked along with the rest of the display artists with in his company, to make an art piece to be sold for a charity event that is being held in the honor of a fellow friend and display artist.

Each D.A. through out the company was sent a canvas to create their piece and send it in before the end of September.
Always being inspired by the mid century style, Jared strayed away a bit from just a canvas painting and created a little something more apart of him.

I am sorry that I wasn't able to get photos of the whole process. Being that it was for work, his boss lady gave him a little time there to work on it.

And thank goodness for the 138 paint samples that we have here at home! They sure do come in handy with art projects!

And you know that  Lula had to get in on the action!

And here comes the finished project ...

I love the driveway how it comes out as well as the globe lights!

SO CUTE! If it only fit us.
